Our next stage of coast to coast travel through the United States and Canada takes us from Edison to the Lancaster County, already in Pennsylvania, with the aim of visiting the Amish community.

We arrive to Lancaster around 1 pm, and after making a brief stop at the motel, we have toured various places in the area, such as local craft centers, such as Amish crafts and culture.

The Amish They are a Christian religious group of Anaptist doctrine known, mainly, for their simple lifestyle, their modest and traditional dress and their resistance to adopting modern comforts. In total there are about 230,000 people, distributed in 22 settlements in the United States and Canada.

In our visit to Lancaster County We attended an interesting show, between theatrical and cinema, which lasted about 40 minutes, and which addressed the Amish generational problem.

Of course we have traveled the small roads that meander between a large number of farms, most of them from Amish. The environment is as idyllic; green landscapes, farms, roads with cars, places where time seems not to have passed, although a little too touristy.

The amish They live on farms scattered in an environment not only Amish. They live alongside the rest of society, but they have their own schools and their own churches.

They are pacifists and have a strong and entrenched sense of community, with great solidarity between them. They follow very strict codes of conduct, religion, customs and clothing, and do not use any element of progress that is obvious to us, such as electricity, TV, radio, zippers, tractors, cars, etc.

However, little by little, perhaps very slowly, the strict amish culture It is being absorbed by the environment.

They begin to see Amish people working as dependents in business, some begin to wear fashionable sneakers, sell their products and also rent their cars for a tourist tour of the area.
